open hardware and boost up for new users

Post by Minamisava »

Hello everyone,
I was trying to get my first board with XMOS going and noticed that, first of all, I can't be the first one and second of all there are sweet projects out there!

I checked out:
- the projects here, but you have to search a lot if you want some schematics.
- XMOS git and it's listing, which also doesn't have schematics (just from cori?):
http://xcore.github.io/repo_index/index.html

Most people get really excited about good open hardware projects like the one from Cori:

I've already filtered 3-4 small projects with open hardware, but was wondering if there is any wiki / collection / listing for such projects. Any inputs?
I'm not complaining about the StartKIT, which I have, but I'm thinking more about building blocks at a hobbiest and maybe prototyping level.

Almost all development kits come with schematics. You can find them on the XMOS website under support of the specific kit.

Good schematics from open source projects are a bit scarce but you can find a few if you go through the projects on XCore.

Here's one: http://www.xcore.com/projects/xs1-l1-ti ... -prototype :)

Thx for the reply and reference design tip!

You are right, there are enough reference designs. I am just used to have building blocks for me and was looking for some premade for xmos =)

I am thinking on starting with a small one, just to get to know the programming language and then build up.

The boards that I've found:
- Breakout board for XS1-L8 (old XS1-L1) with eagle files
http://embeddedeye.com/profiles/blogs/f ... pcb-layout

- Breakout board from Corin also with the XS1-L8 also with eagle files
https://www.xcore.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=1224

- Extension of Corin's work with usb interface (DrNo)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Wj8vBx ... -gduf9lrpA

My favorite is this last one from DrNo. I'm going to read a bit further, he seamed to want to sell it. But the last post I have on it is 2 years old on youtube =/
I would definetly buy one and later one make some of my own.

Maybe I'll just extend the board like he did it and see where it goes.

Hello everyone,
some updates:
So I copied some boards and tryed out a design. I used some reference design and hope to be all correct. The aim was to have a low cost board with usb and all. I chose the 4-Cores version, because it is cheaper. The design follows the post. Feedbacks are welcome!

Im layouting in eagle and once I test it out I will put the schematics and layout up on github or something.

Following it I want to connect an xs1-l8 to a LVDS just for fun. It would use 4 pin-ports each way for about 240 Mbps (@60 Mhz I/O). Of course, each board would have 2 of such ports for a daisy chain. Tips are welcome.

problems:
I thought this power chain is quite long and was hoping to get some integration / miniaturization, like one switching regulator with 2 voltages and one 2-channel voltage dectector. Does anybody know a dual voltage dectector? I'm having trouble to find any with the 100 ns spec and for a reasonable price.
For the power supply I chose an adjustable switching regulator from TI -> TPS62420-Q1
