Re: OpenCV

I don't think you'd be wanting to bring in even the raw algorithms from OpenCV. The issue on the XMOS is memory: even a 160x120 image, in 8-bit pixels, would consume something on the order of 19200 bytes -- that's a third of your core memory, and most vision algorithms to need the raw image, plus a ...

Hmm, is this an indication that a future generation of XMOS processors will have extensively expanded memory? Hopefully in the not-too-distant future....

Re: Huge fan of 8bit mirocontrollers but ¿Why XMOS?

Arduinos have their uses, In my opinion they aren't even in the same class as a prop or xmos... its and apples to oranges comparison I'm not sure I'd go as far as saying "apples and oranges". An XMOS has much more in common with an AVR than, say, an ARM9. The XMOS is more comparable to pr...

Re: Cerebellum Motor/Servo Controller

He has a 17AH 12V battery, the netbook runs off it's own battery currently -- and that's been the limiting factor. The netbook lasts about 3 hours, the 12V battery still has plenty of juice left (even when testing lots of movement)

Agreed. I uploaded 100x100 pixels, seems about the right size....

Re: Huge fan of 8bit mirocontrollers but ¿Why XMOS?

The Arduino is very popular with design students at the Royal College of Art in London. When I visited someone there a couple of years ago I saw lots of Arduinos incorporated into student projects. Yep, the project initially started in the art/design community, and that's definitely where it is sti...

Thanks, that all sounds great. I'll be trying this out later this week (last exam of the semester is on Tuesday).

Re: Huge fan of 8bit mirocontrollers but ¿Why XMOS?

RE: Propeller vs. XMOS I've heard of it, even looked at it briefly. I've never been a fan of Parallax stuff, so I'm a bit biased from the get go. I'm not a fan of the Windows-only development environment, or the fact that it is only supported by a custom, proprietary language. With the XMOS, I've g...

Re: site navigation

What I find really confusing, is that if you click on the "Members" you get to one membership list, but if you click on "Find other professionals" off your profile page, you get to a entirely different membership list (that is much nicer to navigate).
