Re: Designing a simple xCore-200 Board

Thanks for the tip :) I had put this project on hold for a while but hope to get back to it soon.

Re: Designing a simple xCore-200 Board

Hi Kumar, thanks for all the info, many helpful points. I'll start by saying that this initial version of my design is mainly to test if I can make a functional board (both design wise and physically assembling the board). Once I go through some iterations and feel confident that I know what I'm doi...

Re: Designing a simple xCore-200 Board

Still have some tweaking, polishing, and minor adjustments to make on my schematic, but I felt it was done enough to upload to a project page so I can start getting feedback. Here is the project page link: http://www.xcore.com/projects/xl208-based-dev-board-kicad Earlier in my research I thought I h...

XL208 Based Dev Board - Kicad

<t>Version: 0.1<br/> Status: Under development<br/> License: Custom Licence<br/> Download: /files/project_builds/XL208-DevBoard.zip<br/> <br/> The goal of this project is to create a low cost and simplified XCore-200 development board using KiCad. Since I'm a fan of open source (and commercial EDAs ...

Re: kicad_xmos

<t>Hi, I am working on a similar project. At least, my goal is to make a simple dev board using KiCad. I was also hoping to find some way to make a standardized pin header for xmos boards, but it does seem impossible to make a pin-for-pin identical layout for the various xmos chips since the pinouts...

Re: Designing a simple xCore-200 Board

Ok, so after a ton more research I feel I have a much better understanding of how to setup the power circuit. I've compared a bunch of dc regulators and settled on the Diodes AP3417C as recommended by Henk. Although the other options I looked had some advantages, this one seems to be good enough and...

Re: xConnect Link Performance

Unfortunately its not that simple. To clarify, 7.5ns is the time between each symbol sent over the xconnect link. However, the clock rate of the main tile core determines the duration of the signal used to send an xlink symbol (which is a single byte plus a parity bit plus a control bit, so 10 bits ...

Re: xConnect Link Performance

Thanks henk, good explanation. I think part of the answer is also that the 7.5ns figure is the delay between symbols, therefore when running the tile core at 400mhz vs 500mhz, the duration of the symbol itself is different. I'm still a beginner with this stuff so I may be wrong again :)

Re: xConnect Link Performance

I may be wrong, but as I recall, the XS1 series I/O pins can operate up to 100mhz whereas the xcore-200 series pins only go up to 60mhz.

Re: Designing a simple xCore-200 Board

The xmos chip also has exposed ground pad, so I figure if I can do one, I can do another. My plan is to try with my hot airflow rework station and/or modified toaster oven. I would prefer to avoid using another exposed pad ic, if possible to keep things simple. I'm starting to see why the xmos engin...
