Re: Mad Scientist Audio Interface

Thank you. I have to finish re-doing the powersupply board and perhaps make a variant with two of the smaller chips. I bought a USB audio interface and it has made me realize, I want another one with more inputs and outputs so this has taken priority again.

@Ale - Are these sufficient in your opinion? I know they are quite large but the way I was planning on Stacking the boards in the enclosure I should have more than sufficient room.

Re: Mad Scientist Audio Interface

On another note, working on re-doing the Power Board completely.

Going with Linear Regulators and Requiring: Low Noise, Low Ripple, +/- 12V,
+1V, +1.8V, +3.3V, +5V.

Starting voltage I'm considering is +14V [+/- 5%].

Any hints or tips?

Png Renders.

And I think the last thing any of us want is a CAD editor War.

Wow. Quite a blanket statement. Here's one. Not everyone likes apples.

If you had read the previous posts, I'm more than happy to respond to requests. Your post just sounds like well to be honest -- Whining. Do you want pdf or something else. I'm fairly reasonable.

Release Candidate v2: -- Re ran power rails on everything -- Dropped Clock Multiplier - Replaced with two Buffered Crystal Oscillators -- Upped default trace size as well. As always, comments appreciated and welcomed. Tell me what I need to check out next. The closer this is to working on paper, the...

Re: Mad Scientist Audio Interface

[quote="ale500"]Regarding the thin traces, you show the top layer of the power supply. Power rails have traces that seem to be too thin. Regarding the switching regulators... you are using National's simple switchers (now TI), the ones that need 330 uH inductors... those are huge in size, ...

Re: Mad Scientist Audio Interface

Okay, you don't need a clock-multiplier to do that, just two different master clock sources (say two oscillators with a software controlled switch). We just use this multiplier when we want to lock to a external digital stream (the reference given to the clock multiplier from the XCore is derived f...

Re: Mad Scientist Audio Interface

The setup/control is exactly the same. Awesome. Edit: Just read your post re: S/PDIF input, if you have no digital streams to sync to I would advise using fixed local oscillators. We only use the clock multiplier so we can lock to an incoming digital stream (e.g. ADAT or S/PDIF). I would take a loo...

Re: Mad Scientist Audio Interface

Have you considered using the CS2100 (with external reference)? We find the output jitter to be much smaller than the CS2300 (The CS2100 is what we now recommend) I had not, but I will now and will probably re-work as a revision. ** I have now started working on Ironing out putting that in, where C...
