Hi Folks

Just to let you know I started a new group dedicated to the uniqueness of the XK1 boards

If you use or own one or more XK1 boards then this group is dedicated to you, I hope we can all share stories, ideas and projects around the XK-1.

regards
Al

They are now obsolete.

But still suitable for people that wish to use libflash; The XK-1A uses a revised flash device that requires the user to write their own configuration file if they wish to use libflash. Taken from XK-1 Development Kit Update document, available here:

https://www.xmos.com/download/public/XK ... -10%29.pdf
1.2 Revised flash device
The Atmel AT25DF041A-FLASH device on the XK-1 has been replaced with a Winbond
W25X10BVSNIG chip on the XK-1A. Both devices are supported in XFLASH, but
only the Atmel AT25DF041A-FLASH device is supported in libflash. To support the
Winbond device in libflash you need to write your own configuration fileā€”see the
Tools User Guide for further instructions.
So, make your choice... Would you rather spend your time wishing hopelessly to use to the XScope [XK-1] or writing configuration files [XK-1A]? :) Heh.

OK I'll be honest, I just don't get it. Completely baffled.

Hmm

What a complete mess

I'm wondering if my adaptor might allow different rev boards to be interconnected in addition to allowing XLink/Xscope use for original XK1s

Yes, please get the adaptor sorted... And then stock up on XK-1 before they are too hard to find! That way, no problem with the flash and also the adaptor (I assume) could be used on other boards that have the incorrect pinout to enable them to be compatible with XScope. Eg, XC-1A, XC-2 and XC-3 unless I'm got my wires crossed? No pun intended ;) :)

The adaptor merely switches the faulty XLink pinouts on the XSYS connectors. It can be used with any L1/L2 based XSYS connector that includes the links as defined by the "Original" reference schematics like XK1V1.0.

Unfortunately it won't be able help with any of the G4 based boards as the G4 XLinks are incompatible with the L series XLinks.
In fact most of the G4 boards used XTAG 1 which was based around an FTDI JTAG chipset rather than the XTAG2 design based around an L1-64.

Hopefully that should be clear as mud

Al

Gotcha. It just goes to prove I really do not know what I'm talking about! So does this mean there is nothing that can be done at all to get *full speed* XScope working on the G4 based boards?

Anyway, I digress. Let's keep this on XK1 track :).

Not that I'm aware of unless someone builds a G4->L series link adaptor of some sort (prob need a FPGA to do it).

Yup so to get this stuff operating on the original XK1s either the adaptor board or mod the board directly using Russ's directions mentioned in the XK1 User Group messages.

PS none of this is checked yet, purely theoretical at this point.

Al

Hmm, not intending to divert this off-track again, but wouldn't a G2/4-based XTAG-2 plugged in to an XSYS header do the trick, assuming it had the correct firmware?
