XMOS Laser Engraver Controller

Post by bdring »

Version: 0.1

This project is a Laser Engraver Controller. It is a nice fit for the XMOS. This type of controller is almost always done with a high end FPGA or DSP. XMOS is a good replacement option for those devices and is ideal for an open source project because of the low cost of entry and the familiar C like developement language.
The project is detailed on this web site.
laser itself is also an open source design detailed here.

Oh by the way if you want Ethernet, I will donate one of the first Amino board builds to your project.

Folknology,
.
Ethernet is always nice because it is so consistent on the client side. No worries about USB/OS driver issues.
.
I saw your Amino layout. It looks nice. I hope it is frieldly to add on boards. The XK1 is designed to chain together modules, but it is not friendly to add on boards that need to access all the I/O. The 90deg headers pointing in opposite directions is a problem.

Hi regarding I/O

Amino has 2 * 8+4 bit ports to the East (can be combined into a 16+8)
A 8+4 bit port to the north and board chaining to the south.

So plenty of I/O

There will also be some published rules about the I/O to make things play nicely together.
