lib_tsn with MacOS High Sierra

Post by akp »

Has anyone tried lib_tsn (7.0.3rc2 or 8.0.0rc1) with High Sierra? Any reasons I shouldn't upgrade my test device from El Capitan?

MacOS High Sierra with the early January 2018 updates for meltdown and spectre doesn't work with sample rate higher than 48kHz on the AN00202: Gigabit Ethernet AVB endpoint example using I2S master
I reverted to El Capitan and it works at 96kHz

Any update from XMOS about that problem? Do we have to wait for a fix from Apple?

Presumably it's Apple's fault, and I would be surprised if they fixed it. The only think I use the laptop for -- it's a 2012 or 2013 MacBook Pro -- is to run Audacity and record from my AVB hardware (custom based on MC Audio board). With El Capitan (pre meltdown/spectre) it records 192kHz x 8ch no problem so I am not touching it, we don't actually target Mac for our end application so I don't really care that I can't use High Sierra. The MacBook's AVB capability is its one redeeming feature in my opinion, and it is otherwise terrible. That vintage of MacBook Pro has some defect in it that causes poor (glitchy) capture from USB Audio Class 1 devices that work perfect on Windows and Linux, and even a newer MacBook Air.
