Feeling it over, I have "always" done it like this, because the examples I have had to find on Github or wherever, by hand. Except I think once, which I cannot replicate or remember. This must be since 13.2.1 I guess.
Maybe the problem is not in everybody's machine, but in the XMOS server?
I have no problem logging into the XMOS site from by browsers (older and newest Chrome and old 28.0 Firefox).
(*) At Startup: "A connection to 'https://www.xmos.com' could not be esatblished. Therefore the xTIMEcomposer will start in offline mode."
Update: I see there is some talk about Java in this thread (which is too long for me to follow..). When I open a terminal window I get, but I don't know if it's relevant:
