Paul,
the idea is not to reinvent the wheel.
If it was just a matter of being able to analyze generated files, once can also ask if we really need the XMOS dev environment at all, as anyone can analyze files generated by the compiler, the debugger, ....

The main idea is REUSE ... Eclipse evolved to RCP mainly for that !!! REUSE REUSE!

if the Waves viewer sources are available, we can enhance them. If for ANY REASON they cannot be provided, Eclipse platform still provide the possibility to rework the view in order to provide some anchor points and "DOCUMENT THEM" to let users write their own plugins (without the need for sources) that plug into Eclipse and enhance the same view!

This is the point, it's not a matter of fighting about making things open source or not (this is another debate).
