Different xlink topologies

In the slicekit thread the use of slicekit in a hypercube topology was discussed.

As I recall the development tools only support linear and hypercube topologies at the moment, but I was wondering how other topologies could be used.

Specifically I was thinking of a diamond crystalline topology or something similar.

Is it at all possible to "configure" something to support other topologies? (.xn maybe?)

If so, what are the steps?
