Case for XTAG-2

Post by ale500 »

I have a XTAG-2 and I'd like to protect it using a case, I find having the bare board in the hand not a very good idea. Can someone recommend a model ?.

Another question is.. why there is no led (power, activity, something) on the XTAG-2 ? Where yould you recommend to connect a LED ?

There are many suppliers of handheld plastic enclosures if you have a google around...

Something like:

http://www.okw.co.uk/products/okw/smart.htm

or

http://www.okw.co.uk/products/okw/minitec.htm

is probably worth a look. Some of the stuff listed there is about the right size to house an XTAG-2, though, you will need to get a bit handy with a file or a rotary cutting tool or something to make some aperture for the ports to poke through. Nothing too strenuous though.

One can find the schematics for the XTAG-2 here http://www.xmos.com/support/silicon Under "Development Kit Schematics".
There are 2 schematics, one for rev 1v0, and one for rev 1v2 which is recommended for new designs as it includes XMOS' recommended power supply sequencing modifications.
I have a rev 1v0 board. Has anyone got a 1v2 XTAG2? It's marked on the board silk screen.
Here's a link to the 1v0 XTAG2 schematic: http://www.xmos.com/published/xtag-2-sc ... v0-dev-kit
Pin 1 of the XTAG2 connector is 5V. This is probably easiest to use to wire up a power-on LED. When it's doing stuff, TCK will be pulsing. This could be wired to a one-shot (Don't you just miss the 555 timer? A modern 7555 CMOS version would do http://www.intersil.com/data/fn/fn2867.pdf) to give an activity LED.

Max.

I haven't done that much with the 555 really. I wasn't into it at the time, but its usefulness could be again taken into play in such a modification.
