I've previously installed your driver and hardware combination, with no problems. I have just upgraded the firmware on my board and the device driver now I can't get any audio to play out of the system.

If you install a new driver (e.g. go from the free evaluation driver to the free production driver) then the two drivers may conflict.
If you upgrade the board firmware to add new functionality then the existing driver may not recognize the change.
The solution is to use USB Dev View to uninstall all XMOS instances : http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/usb_devices_view.html. After this, please reinstall the driver you wish to use and the conflict should be resolved.
