xTIMEcomposer - Examples Browser Empty

I am a newbie to XMOS development and have just started with the xTIMEcomposer development environment.

When I click on the link in the Get Started section on the XMOS Welcome to navigate to the Examples Browser, the Examples Info tab is empty.

At the bottom of the window in red:

Check For Notifications Failed: Problem reading from https://www.xmos.com


I am running xTIMEcomposer Version: Community_14.3.2 (build 25550, Sep-30-2017) on my MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Early 2015) under Mac OS X El Capitan 10.11.6 and have the latest Java 8 Version 161 installed.

In the Help Perspective, I get the following message:

Tools Help
There is no offline documentation currently available. If you have a network connection, then clicking here will download and install the latest offline documentation package.

When I click on 'here', I get the following error message:



Can anyone help please?

The examples in the Examples Browser window can also be downloaded (documentation and software) and imported into the tools from:

https://www.xmos.com/support/appnotes

The tools user guide is available at:

Your configuration looks standard; I'll see if we can identify the problem you have.

Hi Huw,

Thanks very much for your response and your offer of help.

I have downloaded the examples from the link you provided, but can't see how to import them into the Examples Browser. If I select the Archive File option under General, the Next button is greyed out when I select one of the .zip files that I downloaded.

If I unzip the folder first, the File System option allows me to do an import, but the Examples Tab remains blank, if I attempt to import the same folder again, I get the message 'Some projects cannot be imported because they already exist in the workspace', but I can't see them anywhere in xTIMEcomposer.

Hi Al,

Please see 7.3 in User Guide.

You need to use Import > General > Existing Projects into Workspace (not Archive File)

and then

Select archive file and pick the downloaded ZIP file.

That will import the whole package into Project Explorer.

Select the project at the top level (eg AN00129_hid_class) and hit the Build icon; xT will build the project prompting you to import any dependencies.

BTW have you tried installing the legacy Java 6 runtime to see if that fixes the Browser window problem:

Hi Huw,

Thanks very much, I have made some progress...

I am able to import the packages as you describe, but initially xT would not show the Project Explorer, so I couldn't see them. It was only displayed once I had done a Reset Perspective for the Edit Perspective, so I think there's a bug there - just selecting Show View didn't show the Project Explorer.

I downloaded Java 6 from the link you provided and installed it, but I still get the same error. I suspect that as the Java Control Panel in System Preferences is still showing the installed version as Java 8 Update 161 (the latest version), that xT is still seeing that, rather than Java 6. I can't see how to uninstall Java 8, or to point xT at the Java 6 install instead, do you have any suggestions please?

Hi mon2,

Thank you very much, I was able to uninstall Java 8, so that the Java icon disappears from System Preferences.

I've tried installing the legacy Java 6 a couple of times since and restarting my computer, but I don't see the Java icon in System Preferences, is this expected please?

When I launch xT now, I get a warning window that a connection to https://www.xmos.com cannot be established and that xT will work in offline mode. Is this an indication that it is not utilising the Java 6 install? I don't have any proxy server etc. set up.

When I go to the Help Perspective and click on the link to download the offline documentation, I get the same Java Runtime Exception error shown in my original post, which would still suggest a Java issue. I can however access the Online Help and the XCore Exchange Community Support, so that is working.

This is what still isn't working:

Examples Perspective: No Software Examples due to 'Connection to https://www.xmos.com failed'

Help Perspective: No offline documentation download due to Java runtime exception error

Not a MAC person although we have some here at work but this could be a Safari issue. Is that how you are downloading the JAVA 6?

You are required to go to http://www.xmos.com and create a free user account. Use the log in details from this account and provide them to this tool. Only then will the IDE be able to access the missing information you raised in the first post.

If you are unable to get access to the demos, examples with this toolchain then suggest for you to uninstall this installation and re-install once again. At the end of the installation procedure the tool will ask you to log into your account.

Please create this account before installing again and post your results. Suspecting that is the issue. However, if you have supplied this log in information for your XMOS account then there could be something else at play here.
