SerDes on Xcore?

Post by vsluiter »

For a new project I'm looking into the possibilities of 12-bit 50MSps ADC's. These all come with a SerDes interface, which -I think- is not supported by your devices. Is that right (no >=800Mbit/s SerDes link support)? Do you see other possibilities?

First off, I'm no expert on SerDes but I think you're right and I don't know of a simple way to do it with an XMOS processor. There's probably a way to do it with a shift register to feed a 12bit signal into a 16bit input port then clock it at 50MHz but I think even this is going to be tough. Way back in the early days of XMOS there was a gigabit ethernet reference design which used a CPLD to do a similar thing to turn serial to parallel data so I guess it may be possible but probably not straightforward.
