I understand that the USB Audio 2.0 device reference design software works with the Samsung galaxy S3, S4 and Sony Xperia Z1 for audio output but will it ever work for audio input to the phone ? I'm unclear if the firmware in the phone or XMOS device needs to be updated ?
thanks for any clarification on this

I have only tried output. Most Android phones seem only to be able to handle 16 bit audio.
Only the output path has dynamically changable sample-depths at the moment so input may not operate on devices with these restrictions.
You could build the device as 16bit only to double check.
I have tested output on the S3 and it works.
