How to enable the microphone in USB Audio 2.0 MC?

Post by baum »

Hi there

I'm testing the microphone input of the board "USB Audio 2.0 MC Ref Design". After I loaded the firmware "app_usb_aud_l2_2io_spdifout_adatout.xe", the board can realize 8-channel output, but doesn't have microphone input.

In the "Sound" setup, I've chosen "XMOS XS1-L2" as default recording device. However, the input signal is still from the laptop's built-in microphone. Does anyone know how to enable the microphone input of "XMOS XS1-L2"?

I've also checked the audio devices, which are connected to my laptop. The output channel number of "XMOS XS1-L2" is correct (8 channels), but the input channel number is just 2. From the manual, it says this board can support 6 annalog input channels, which is contradictory to the result of my test. What configuration should be changed so that this board can support 6 microphones input?

I attached the screenshot of the "Sound" setup, firmware and device information in this post. Thank you in advance.

Best regards

Hi baum.

Did you install TUSBAudio Driver for this board in Windows? If yes run TUSBAudio Contorl Panel. Check number of inputs and outputs.

Also keep in mind that variables in customdefines.h may be redefined in Makefile.

Try to load 2ioxx firmware - without SPDIF & ADAT.

Yes, I've installed TUSBAudio Driver. It shows there are 10 input channels with 6 analogue inputs amongh them. I also loaded the firmware "app_sub_aud_l2_2ioxx.xe" on the board (I didn't change anything in "customdefines.h", just compile it and flash it on the board).

But the microphones, which are pluged to the board, still cannot record sound. Should I change some configuration in "customdefines.h"?

Just found this post. http://www.xcore.com/forum/viewtopic.ph ... 4&start=10

It says a pre-amp is needed. I'm using the PC desktop microphone (the specs are shown in the attachment). Could anybody suggest what kind of pre-amp I should buy?

EDIT:

The answer in this link may not be correct, because in the "USB Audio 2.0 Reference Design, XS1-L2 Edition Hardware Manual" it says the pre-amp is integrated.
