All versions of the XTAG (XTAG-2 / XTAG-3 / XTAG-Pro / startKIT) have issues enumerating on 64 bit windows 7 when used with USB 3 ports.
Is there anything that can be done to make them work correctly?

There is a long standing issue with windows 7 and USB 3 drivers, USB 3 was not supported by microsoft with their own driver until windows 8, this means that every machine has to use the manufacturers windows usb 3 driver. There seems to be a problem in that some of them do not exhibit spec compliant behaviour. The XTAG has a very unusual boot process (coming up as a USB device and then changing to be another one) and with some USB 3 drivers on windows 7 this does not seem to work.
There is a work around in the xTIMEcomposer tools,
If you add a system environment variable with the following value then unplug and replug the XTAG and run xrun -l again the XTAG should now be present.
XMOS_XTAG_WINDOWS7_STARTUP_TIME with the value 500

I followed this instructions. They worked for my XTAG2, but not for XTAG3.
XTAG3 is listed in the device manager. It is directly connected to my laptop.
What else can be wrong?

I also have the same problem, either xtag2 or xtag3 is unstable in windows 7
I always need to replug, reboot or press the refresh list button several time for it to work
Is it possible to update the firmware on xtag to solve the problem?
the surface mount type usb socket on the xtag3 is also weak, it was tear out during replug!
is it possible to design my robust xtag pcb?
