few days ago Samsung and Numonyx announced availability of phase change random access memory.
new chips are 3 times faster and offer more read/write cycles. they are backward compatible with nor flash.

Samsung and Numonyx, I haven't seen Samsung's yet in the market. Numonyx makes for a fast spi ROM and can be written 1000000 times. I like Mram by Everspin its fast and infinitely writable making it pure ram. think of the analogy of DEC drives and MAG tape on the front end of a mainframe except you don't have to go through the device i/o and dma. Its ramdrives on page zero. Samsung and Numonyx are very large and fast I would just use the Mram at the absolute lowest priority with a computer select to the Numonyx SPI.
