I have seen that the decoupling capacitors have to be as close as possible from the XMOS chip package (with short path to ground condition).
Does it "really" matter if we replace the 0402 decoupling capacitors with 0603 ones?
Decoupling capacitors size 0402 or 0603

0603 are small enough as to be put really close, imho. and they are easier in the (my) eyes !

Yep, 0603 are fine... 0402 are bit of a pain.

Personally I find 0402 are not too bad to solder... although you have to remember to not sneeze when fitting them!
If it's for an L2 - we recommend 0402, otherwise 0603 should be fine. With a L1-48 I found it easier with 0402, as I was space constrained.
Cheers,
Corin

Corin,
the problem is not with prototyping. I can solder them. The problem is that the factories I found (chineese) that accept to do assembly for little quantities of boards have a lot of problems and defects when they deal with 0402. So I try to use the biggest parts possible to avoid diving in infinite problems (I think you understand how contracts and work goes with chineese companies ;) ).

I saw some 01005 resistors on a Siemens stand at a show a couple of years ago, they really are small. They look like dust particles!

There are different quality grades when dealing with china, and in the end good quality is the same price domestically - you choose :D

The problem is that you can'y easily find factories that does assembly at affordable prices here in France :(vanjast wrote:There are different quality grades when dealing with china, and in the end good quality is the same price domestically - you choose :D

We have one or two here in the UK which you could use. ASK Technology is excellent for prototypes, and their charges are reasonable:
