Some more technical details, in Martin's own words:
"A while ago I decided to build a games console out of an XK-1, just as a
learning exercise. I haven't touched it for a month now so I guess I'm
bored with it and probably won't finish it off. As I pestered a couple
of people in the office when getting it working, I thought I'd bring it
in to show. I've set it up on Mike's desk if anybody wants a play.
Neither the hardware nor the software is complete. Press Select to reset
it (ish), Start to start, right stick is directional fire, left stick to
move. The level just peters out. Collision detection with the hills is
"imprecise". High score is around 9K.
Graphically it's doing 320x200, with 2 independent scrolling layers, a
text layer, 32 16x16 sprites and 64 8x8 sprites. The audio is 4 channels
of programmable waveforms at variable frequency output using a 1bit DAC
of the worst kind imaginable. With a bit of effort it could all be
squeezed onto a single XK-1; availaility of ports is the most pressing
contraint."
