Hey XCore.
Since leaving XCore last May, I worked part time keeping the site clean and smooth so the community can still enjoy and share their XMOS knowledge.
In December, due to university work loads, I stopped maintaining the site.
In the past two months however I've noticed that spam has flooded in astronomically.
Due to this, I've decided to take up maintaining the site again part time. I'll be monitoring and running stuff in the back ground for the foreseeable future.
This means I'll be able to bring back that great XCore experience. I'll also be revamping the news section, so XMOS.com isn't getting all the fun ;)
How I'll be tackling spam
So, we have a spam filter at the moment, but the bots that are using the site have 'learned' how to get around it. As such I'll be making the spam filter extremely strictfor the next few days and slowly toning it down until we reach a nice level where the bots are pushed out.
This does mean however that any content you post could possibly be caught as spam.
You'll know when this happens because you'll get a warning, or won't see your content posted.
If this does happen don't panic! Let me know via message or post in reply on this thread and I'll publish your content.
I'll let you know when the spam filter has been fixed.
Oh and yes I am in the process of deleting the mountain load of spam we have at the moment. Give me a few days to finish this, there is a lot!
There is a spam problem.

Hey Phalt,
good to see you back.
All the best with the filter and thanks a lot for the effort.

I forgot my password, got an email with link to reset it.
Reset the password, clicked SAVE, and a spam warning showed up.
The password was indeed reset to the new entry.
Well, that's what happened.

In order to combat spam I set the module to 'super paranoid mode', so to speak.Obtuse wrote:I forgot my password, got an email with link to reset it.

It was blocking even me, an admin, from signing in yesterday.
Should have been fixed by now.

A couple weeks ago, I put up a anti-spam CAPTCHA on the user registration form which looks to have cut out the spam users problem.
