can the startkit be setup as a USB to I2S bridge with 4 ster

Post by PaulF »

is it possible to setup the startkit and use it as a USB to I2S Bridge with main system clock out (Mclk) and possibly upto 4 audio data lines please ?

as im doing a DIY project on a Onkyo 7.1 amp im modifying and needing the following data + clock input signals to the dsp's and Dacs,

PCM audio data lines for, main left & right, center & subwoofer, surround left & right and surround back left & right

Clock's pcm-LRclk pcm-Bclk and Mclk

the amp can also work with a native DSD audio stream input if the startkit or any other can also do usb to dsd audio please as the actual DAC's in the unit are 8 PCM1796 DBR

The amp im trying to modify is the onkyo tx-sr875 with a defective hdmi board where the i2s signals leave the hdmi board by connector coming from a sil9135 hdmi rx chip to the DSP board which can be bypassed then onto the DAC's as the rest of the unit is really well made with high grade discrete components just the hdmi board lets them down so trying to make a DIY fix for my self plus if/when im successful i will hake a basic how to and post it out on the internet may be the www.diyaudio.com

iv just got a basic usb logic Analyser and an old basic british scope to look into a couple of the data/signal lines to and from the video microprocessor i think(hope) is for the OSD plus other logic control's on the hdmi board and communication with the systems main microprocessor to check what if any signals/data i need to recreate that the main microprocessor would normally receive from the hdmi board after a successful hdmi handshake to propperly accept and process the I2S stream that leaves the hdmi board going to the dsp board just as it would normally from a working hdmi board pluged into say a blu-ray player

but im really hoping its not going to be that hard and have to go that deep into it as my other onkyo tx-sr578 only ever displays hdmi audio formats and nothing about any handshaking or video related info and the problem hdmi board in the Tx-sr875, the audio is last thing to go well after the video processing by the Reon-vx chip and OSD but i dont care about any video related stuff just audio even more so as its only way to use native dsd audio was by hdmi so using very same I2S connection as stated in the service manual so im hoping the dsp board just listen's out for a I2S stream from the hdmi board and a signal named "rxmute" rom hdmi board to main microprocessor just control's the mute so theres no pops or any other noise outputed until the hdmi rx chip is ready to stream the I2S audio data but need a usb to i2s with master clock and 4 audio data lines for 7.1 sound at upto 24bit 192khz possibly DSD as well hopefully hence why i am messaging you now and asking

when i signed up i noticed you can post your own poject's would this project be worth posting as a person project of mine ? just asking,

thanks for taking time to read this extra long post plus any help what so ever you can give me would be greatfully received thank you

The desired USB device and I2S functionality is best suited on XS1-U based device as a target for such applications
