XHRA-2HPA flash memory required

XHRA-2HPA flash memory required

By reading the datasheet, it says that the xMOS chip can be configured with PU/PD, but also that the flash must contain firmware. Hence I would like to know if it is possible to avoid flash memory in prototype step or if it is mandatory?

The flash is required.
